Analysis
Information
Systems is a combination of software, hardware, and telecommunication networks
to collect useful data. Amazon uses a variety of information systems (IS),
however the main ones used by the managers are Slack. Slack is a collaboration
software that provides an instant messaging app for businesses and connects
them to the information they need. This is the only one used by the managers as
it's faster, better organized, and more secure than email. Amazon managers are
also given laptops and walkie talkies so they can stay in communication with
each other at all times.
Like many companies, Amazon does have information silos in its process. Amazon’s fulfillment center involves processes with information flowing from the top such as the senior manager to the manager and processing assistants. Amazon’s Slack software does eliminate the silo problem. Slack is a collaboration software that provides an instant messaging app for businesses and connects them to the information they need. Slack is known for being a messaging app but on steroids. This means that management will also be in the know.
Amazon
uses product and product implementation to generate a specified product of a
project or activity through buying and
software to generate a product appropriate for the phase of the life
cycle. This can be seen through the use of their fulfillment centers.
Prioritizing it can save money, allowing them to learn from the old system.
The business process I am analyzing at Amazon is human resources management. Social media can support the process by creating a platform where staff can communicate with one another using textual, visual, or audio information (Kroenke & Boyle, 2019). Such communication is essential for passing information from one department to another and for seamless operations within the company. Additionally, social media allows employees and customers to air their views and opinions about an issue. The positive and negative feedback that Amazon receives from, for example, their social media posts provide information crucial in bringing about change in the company. The company has continuously improved its products, services, and operations through such feedback.
Further, through social media, people and the organization can build social capital. Social capital is the value and benefits of establishing social networks, connections, and relationships (Kroenke & Boyle, 2019). Such relationships with other people can be beneficial as one increases their chances of getting a promotion and landing a better job. Social media also helps build an identity, position, and image within an organization. Employees at the company, therefore, get professional development opportunities through social media. Amazon’s social media presence on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram also increases its social capital. Online users may share posts about the company and recommend some of the company’s products to friends. Besides, the company enhances its public image through social media, and such positive relations with the public are important for enhancing sales and establishing dominance in the market.
